New shoes
I’ve longed for a pair of Swedish Hasbeens for some time now, and this week I finally made my order. After much hesitation I decided to go for a pair of “Peep toe high”, in bright red. We’re invited to a wedding this spring and I never have any nice shoes to wear to such occations, since I usually only wear really comfortable sneakers or ballerina shoes. These we’ll...

Hanging storage
I made this hanging storage thing for the bathroom in our old apartment, where we needed somewhere to put Ester’s nappies and clothes. It’s made of a mix of vintage and new fabrics (Ikea and Stoff&Stil). Now it hangs in Ester’s room, and it works really well for books and comics (although the comics are currently more for her big sister).

Tax declarations and a big heart
Yesterday we did our tax declarations. Doing it over a very slow internet connection can make anyone crazy. Luckily enought I got to relax with some plastic beads afterwards. “Mommy, I want to make the biiiiig heart with you!” All colors must be used!

Rocking chair
I’m back home after my weekend in Stockholm, where I had a great time. The shopping I had planned was almost immediately turned down in favour of just hanging out in the sun though. :) But I did get to visit my favorite book shop; Konst-ig and some other nice places. Here’s something we got after the return home, a second hand rocking chair: Found it on blocket and it was almost...

Two Tradera findings and a trip to Stockholm
1. Old picture of the Swedish Royal family, that has found a new home in our laundry room: 2. The brown Bumling-lamp that I mentioned before: Now I’m packing for a weekend in Stockholm with good friends and perhaps some shopping, or at least browsing some of the stores that we don’t have here in Gothenburg, like Afroart, Sally Ann, Ekovaruhuset and Coctail. I’m bringing my...

In a good mood
Today I’m in a good mood. Partly because my sister-in-law thought of us when she stumbled upon an old coffee table from the 50ies (some relatives of hers are moving to a smaller space). Haven’t seen it yet but hopefully it’ll fit perfectly in our living room. We’ve also realized that another chair in the living room would be good (and that we actually have room for one)....

Putting the pieces together
We wanted to have a small coat rack in Ester’s room, where we could hang her clothes. Since we couldn’t find one the right size, we built one ourselves. Well, we actually had a little help from the carpenters with the sawing, but we did put the pieces together ourselves. The brackets are from Ikea (a little bit modified) and the shelf is made out of MDF. A round rod and some white...

Living small is the new trend
In the latest issue of Family Living there is an interesting article about people who choose to live in small spaces. Living small makes you free to spend your money on other things. It also makes it easier to lead a sustainable life, something I’ve written about before. Johan and I lived quite a few years in a very small apartment in Stockholm, and I can really miss that sometimes...

Today...
…we’ve put up the big world map above our kitchen table. Cool, huh?! We’ve also planted flowers and vegetables out on our small balcony: And I finally “won” an online auction for second hand brown Bumling lamp! Yay!! Right now we’re listening to this excellent cover of They don’t know.

ABC-poster by Lotta Bruhn
Eowyn has just started to become interested in the alphabet, so we got this ABC-poster for her by the very talented illustrator Lotta Bruhn:

I love it!
The last couple of days we’ve been busy playing outside in the sun. I love it that it finally has started to feel like spring! Today I took a walk through Linnéstan on my way home from work. Halfway home there’s this nice little vintage store called Plastac, where I found this pretty pink and red jar. The owner seemed almost reluctant to sell it to me, since they’d just gotten...

Less is more?
I mentioned the little shelf I made for Ester before. Now, I’ve finished one for Eowyn as well:  I ususally think that “less is not more - it’s less” but this time I decided not to use any paper, just a little paint, because I think that toys are often quite striking by themselves. I could always add some paper later. What do you think? Like I suspected, it became...

Masdar - carbon-neutral city →
Interesting article about a carbon-neutral city being built in Abu Dhabi. The part about the driverless so called podcars made me wonder if it was an april fool’s day joke, but I guess it isn’t. :-) Don’t know why that seemed impossible, but it just felt too futuristic. Perhaps because the car industry has us so convinced that old-style cars are the only alternative? Anyways, I...

A little bit of order
I hope you’ve all had a nice weekend. We have had a great one, with a perfect mix of fun, relaxing and getting things done. For one thing, we’ve finally removed all the cans of paint and stuff that had piled up on the cabinet in the livingroom. I might have said this before (?), but now we’re more or less done with all move-related projects. Feels great to just relax for a...

Green gone wrong - interesting book review →
I haven’t read the book, but it seems interesting. I agree with the reviewer’s point that instead of just buying “green”, we must stop buying so much stuff. Perhaps a little less controversial here in Sweden as it might be in the US?

Kungsladugård-apartment
This apartment, in Kungsladugård not far from where we live, looks really cozy. I like the red fabric on the wall, I think it’s from Ikea? The green fabric on the kitchen wall is also really cool. (all images by Janne Olander via Stadshem)

A small shelf for Ester
Finally done with one of the second hand shelves that has been on my todo-list since forever. I decorated it with bits of wrapping paper and vintage wallpaper, but left the wood as it was. Now I’m working on one for Eowyn as well. That one is getting a little bit of paint as well so it takes a bit longer to finish.

Sandra Juto
Via My scandinavian retreat I found my way to Sandra Juto, a fellow Gothenburger it seems, who makes really cool illustrations. And I love the her home as well.  (images Sandra Juto)

Old movie posters
The old movie posters are from the 40ies. They were found by my ex-boyfriend in the attic of an old theater called China after it burned years ago. We had the entire set of all movies that they showed there during a year (1945-46 I think it was), including Casablanca (which I unfortunately had to give up when we split up, also years ago :-)).

Barbapapa tea set
Besides Moomin we also love Barbapapa. Eowyn got this tea-set last christmas, and I think it’s really cute. The blue Barbabright-teacup is unfortunately broken already, but the rest of them are doing just fine. :)
