A mirror from Västerås

This week I made a short trip to the Swedish city Västerås, for work. Had a moment to walk around town just before catching the train home and luckily enough I stumbled upon a nice little thriftstore, where I found this mirror. Just 80 SEK, which, compared to the prices in this town, I think is quite cheap.

Eo had loads of ideas upon where to put it, but finally it ended up behind the door in her room.

Today the kids are well and we’re planning to visit Sjöfartsmuséet (a maritime museum) here in Gothenburg. I’m also planning to get some black paint for the white chairs. What do you think, should they be glossy or not?

Chairs, chairs, chairs

We’ve gotten some more stickback chairs for our living room. But they looked much better in the kitchen so we decided to make a switch. These ones are black so now we’re thinking of painting the white ones black as well. I like black better than white, although I think they might look good in other colors as well.

The teak stickback chairs have moved to the dining room, which means that we now have a whole set of (different) teak chairs in the dining room. I think it’s nice when you have some aspect that keeps the whole thing together, like having similar chairs in different colors or different chairs in a similar color (or at least color-scheme, like different pastels).

Curtains?

I’ve found some nice retro fabrics lately. I bought this on an online auction:

And this blue one, of which I have two identical pieces. I think they’re curtains. I’m thinking we might use them as that in Ester’s room. Normally, we’re not that fond of curtains and we don’t have any in our apartment right now. We have so much other stuff on our walls (art and bookshelves etc) that curtains would be too much. But Ester’s walls are just a little bit less crowded than the rest of the place.

Kids chairs and jacket

Today we’ve started the day with a visit to a thrift store. Note to self: don’t bring the entire family to an extremely crowded thrift store… But even so we managed to find these kids chairs for just 20 crowns each. Perfect for Ester’s room. Finding second hand stuff for the kids is pretty easy and much more fun (not to mention cheaper) than buying new stuff.

Yesterday I also did a little bit of “new”, but still sustainable, shopping. One pair of fair trade/organic cotton jeans from Imps & Elfs (half off at a local kids store!) for Eowyn. And then we ordered a new spring jacket for her, also half off (here) and also organic, from Blå Tomat

Most of Eowyn’s and Ester’s clothes are second hand but sometimes it’s nice to buy something new for them. And there are so many organic/ecological kids clothes brands popping up that it’s quite easy.

Yesterday

Yesterday was a productive day. First off I finally did some sewing (probably the first time since we moved here). It was really fun, so I must try to do it more often. I also took the time to cover Eo’s notice board with some fabric (even though it’s so crowded most of the time the notice board itself doesn’t show).

I also found a shelf, and some cool retro curtains, at a newly opened local second hand store. We’re going to hang it in our hallway for our mittens, hats and stuff.

Last but not least we rearranged on our walls once again… Apple papple has moved into Ester’s room.

Saturday and a new rug

Yesterday I found this nice rag-rug at a second hand store. And today we’re having pizza for lunch.

The new chairs

Now all we need is four more of these, they don’t need to be identical but something similar. Or something totally different. As long as they are cool and second hand it doesn’t really matter. :-)

Shelf number three and stickback chairs

Just in time for our nice, long Christmas break to be over (we had three weeks!) both kids got the chickenpox. *sigh* Johan and I are taking turns working and staying at home (which really isn’t that bad). The weekend was pretty slow because of this, and I couldn’t stop myself from pimping the old shelf with some nice paper, even though I’ve started to grow a little bit tired of these kind of re-made shelves by now. Anyways, I think it turned out great. We’ve put it in Eo’s room, above her little stove. She got to participate by choosing the papers to put on it so she was pretty pleased.

It’s mostly Ester who plays with the stove though. I thought of moving it into her room instead but that would probably take some persuasion…

On my way to work today I bought some very nice second hand stickback chairs for our dining room table. I’ll show you later!

All I want for christmas…

…is peace on earth and happy kids… ;-)

And also, Santa, I wouldn’t mind these cute toadstool-candleholders!:
